Guidepost #6 is one of my favorites- Cultivating Creativity and Letting Go of Comparison.

What did you create as a child? Art? Crafts? Towers out of blocks? Lego creations? Stories acted out by your stuffed animals? I did all of these things.

When did you start comparing your creations to other people’s? When did you start comparing your life to other people’s? Just by asking yourself these questions, can you make the connection between comparison and stifling creativity?

Here are three things Brene covers in this guidepost:

  1. There’s no such thing as creative and non-creative people. There are people who use their creativity and people who don’t.
  2. Our unique contributions are born of our creativity.
  3. As long as we’re creating, we’re cultivating meaning. If we want to make meaning, we need to create!

I’m going to leave it at that for this week. Next week will be about being creative and letting go of comparison!
